- Fixed Term full-time position until December 2026
Health New Zealand | Te Whatu Ora is firmly grounded in the principles of Te Tiriti o Waitangi and is committed to building a health system that serves all New Zealanders.
About the Role
Our department offers a full range of general Obstetrics and Gynaecology services with links to the Auckland district for Gynaecological Oncology; Maternal-Fetal Medicine, Tertiary Neonatal Care and Tertiary Fertility. Each year there are more than 2000 births in primary and secondary facilities in Northland.
As a Consultant Obstetrician and Gynaecologist, you will be based at the Whangārei Hospital, with visiting services across our three rural hospitals. You will be a part of a 1:8 roster covering acute Obstetrics and Gynaecology. You will work alongside a team of House Officers and 1-2 advanced trainees, and you will be highly involved in all acute cases providing direct hands-on patient care. Every day you will be motivated and driven to work in the public health sector, bringing a ‘can do' positive attitude.
In return we can provide a range of hands-on experience in general Obstetrics and Gynaecology, as well as opportunities to develop special interests. Our close-knit department maintains strong collegial relationships, offering plenty of teaching and learning opportunities. Many of our House Officers complete the O&G Diploma and some join the O&G registrar training programme, and we teach 5th and 6th year medical students from the University of Auckland.
