- Outpatients Department
- Permanent part-time, 0.6 FTE
Health New Zealand | Te Whatu Ora is firmly grounded in the principles of Te Tiriti o Waitangi and is committed to building a health system that serves all New Zealanders.
About the Role
Are you a compassionate, dedicated individual looking to make a real difference in a close-knit community? We're looking for an amazing Health Care Assistant to join our small but mighty team in the Outpatient Department at a rural New Zealand hospital.
Are you ready to take your health care career somewhere truly special? As a Health Care Assistant in our rural New Zealand hospital, you won't just be another cog in the system — you'll be a trusted, valued member of a close-knit team making a real difference in the lives of patients and their whanau. Here, your care counts. You'll enjoy meaningful, hands-on work in a supportive environment where your efforts are recognized, your voice is heard, and your wellbeing matters.
As a Health Care Assistant (HCA) in our outpatient clinic, work is fast-paced, patient-focused, and incredibly fulfilling. You'll start by preparing consultation rooms, organising equipment, and helping patients feel welcome and at ease. Throughout the day, you'll assist with patient check-ins, assist Ophthalmology clinics with basic testing, support Audiology clinics, assist clinical staff during minor procedures, and ensure smooth patient flow between appointments. You'll also manage administrative tasks like updating records, maintaining cleanliness and infection control standards. In this role, you're the friendly, reassuring presence that helps keep the clinic running smoothly and patients supported from the moment they walk through the door.
Beyond the hospital walls, life is just as rewarding. Surrounded by stunning landscapes, friendly locals, and a true sense of community, this is more than a job — it's a lifestyle. Whether you're looking to escape the city, grow your skills, or be part of something with heart, this role offers the perfect balance of purpose and peace. Join us and help shape the future of rural health care — one person, one connection at a time.
About the Team/Service/ Location
Our outpatient team is a dynamic, multidisciplinary group made up of nurses, doctors, and allied health professionals, who work closely together to deliver high-quality, patient-centred care. Serving a diverse rural population, the team supports a wide range of clinics — from general medicine and minor procedures to specialist visits and follow-ups. You will support all our clinics but focus on Ophthalmology and Audiology. Collaboration and communication are at the heart of everything we do, creating a welcoming, well-organised environment where patients feel supported and staff feel valued.
