The Paediatric Senior House Officer (SHO) position provides valuable exposure to a wide range of acute and elective paediatric cases, with the opportunity to work in both General Paediatrics and Neonatology. About the Role
As a Paediatric Senior House Officer, you will work in a busy and supportive Paediatric Department. You will gain valuable experience in managing a variety of acute paediatric presentations in both General Paediatrics and Neonatology. The department has a 22-bed General Paediatric ward, a 4-bed day stay unit, and a 12-bed Level 2 Neonatal Unit. Senior House Officers work on an eight-person roster, including day shifts, long days, evenings, nights and weekends. You will always be working alongside a Registrar for supervision. This position is ideal for those looking to start their career in Paediatrics or those seeking paediatric experience relevant to General Practice.
About the Team/Service
The Paediatric Department at Tauranga Hospital consists of a dynamic team of 14 SMOs, 2 Fellows, 8 Registrars and 8 SHOs. The department offers a supportive environment where SHOs will gain hands-on experience in acute paediatrics and neonatology, with ample opportunities for professional development.
About you
As a Paediatric Senior House Officer, you are not required to have prior paediatric experience. This role is perfect for someone starting their career in paediatrics, with a strong interest in learning and growing in this field, as well as for those looking to gain paediatric experience for a career in General Practice or Emergency Medicine. You will be comfortable working in a busy hospital environment, assisting in the management of a range of paediatric conditions, and working alongside Registrars and senior medical staff. A commitment to learning and professional growth is essential.
