Duty Nurse Manager

About the Role
We are looking for a confident, capable, and compassionate Registered Nurse to join our Duty Nurse Manager team at Whakatāne Hospital in a permanent, part-time role working 0.5 FTE (20 hours per week).
This is a key leadership role for managing hospital operations outside of regular hours, ensuring safe, effective, and timely care for our patients. You will be part of a close-knit, experienced team that provides 24/7 nursing and hospital-wide support, coordinating clinical flow, staffing, and response during both routine and critical periods.
Every shift will draw on your leadership, problem-solving, and communication skills – keeping calm under pressure while supporting staff, advocating for patients, and contributing to equitable health outcomes across the Eastern Bay of Plenty.

About you
We seek an experienced Registered Nurse with a calm, solutions-focused approach to leadership. You work well under pressure, think clearly in complex situations, and understand the importance of collaboration, communication, and cultural safety.
What you will bring:
- New Zealand Registered Nurse with a current Annual Practicing Certificate
- Significant acute clinical experience in hospital settings
- Shift coordination and/or staff management experience
- Strong clinical skills including cannulation, venepuncture, and ACLS
- Excellent communication and decision-making ability
- Flexibility to work rostered shifts across all days of the week
- A postgraduate qualification or working towards one (preferred)
