Chief Advisor - Business Services - NPHS

About the Role
We have the opportunity available to join our Business Services team in the National Public Health Service as a Chief Advisor in a fixed term, full-time role.
The primary purpose of the role is to support the Head of Business Services with strategic oversight and delivery of the business services work programme, lead complex and strategic pieces of work, and to provide deputy cover for the Head of Business Services as needed.
This is a 12-month fixed-term role.
About the Team/Service/ Location
The National Public Health Service (NPHS) within Health New Zealand - Te Whatu Ora, work towards Pae Ora (healthy futures) for all by engaging with the wider determinants that impact people's health, focusing on oranga/wellbeing, prevention, protection, and population-level intervention. We are connected across boundaries to deliver public health services that are nationally planned, regionally delivered and locally tailored.
About you
You will have extensive experience in providing advice to senior leaders in a health context, and the ability to lead on complex projects and manage diverse stakeholders. You're able to draw on data, insights, and critical thinking to make sound decisions and recommendations to senior leaders. This involves navigating complexity and ambiguity to deliver outcomes, problem solving and facilitating discussions to achieve results.
Skills and Experience
- A relevant graduate and post-graduate qualification in health, business or management
- Extensive experience in the New Zealand health system
- Extensive experience in planning, funding and advisory roles including an in-depth understanding of machinery of government
- Strong written communication skills, with the ability to communicate clearly and succinctly in a variety of communication settings and styles under time pressures
- Experience writing high quality briefings, aide memoires, cabinet papers and advice for Ministers and senior leaders, under time constraints
- Excellent analytical skills combined with an ability to quickly assimilate information
- Experience in applying critical thinking and using sound judgement to develop options and provide advice, particularly in leading complex work
- Proven organisational skills with the ability to think ahead, use initiative, establish priorities and meet deadlines whilst preserving high levels of accuracy
- Knowledge and skills to deal effectively with complex and politically sensitive situations or topics
