About the Role
We have a permanent, full-time opportunity available to join the National Health Promotion team as a Programme Lead Harmful Commodities.
The primary purpose of the role is to lead and provide expert advice on health promotion. The advice should support the design, development, and evaluation of health promotion programmes, strategies, policies, interventions and initiatives that address the determinants of health, support community lead initiative that support wellbeing.
In this role you will lead and provide senior oversight for the planning, implementing, delivery and evaluation of a comprehensive Health Promotion approach for the NPHS. Oversee the day-to-day work programme ensuring staff have the resources, direction and support needed. Provide expert advice and strategic through leadership, through experience, connections, insights and evidence.
About the Team/Service/ Location
The National Public Health Service (NPHS) within Health New Zealand - Te Whatu Ora, work towards Pae Ora (healthy futures) for all by engaging with the wider determinants that impact people's health, focusing on oranga/wellbeing, prevention, protection, and population-level intervention. We are connected across boundaries to deliver public health services that are nationally planned, regionally delivered and locally tailored.
About you
You are someone able to demonstrate mature communication and interpersonal skills, including the ability to write and present effectively, and to develop, unify and maintain strong internal and external relationships essential for achieving sustainable outcomes. You come with exceptional team and programme management experience and an advanced understanding and practical experience in applying Te Tiriti o Waitangi into work.
Skills and Experience
- A relevant tertiary qualification, and/or at least seven years' experience in developing and delivering successful government initiatives
- A good understanding of the ability to work in a culturally and ethically safe way with a range of communities and stakeholders
- Demonstrated experience facilitating groups and leading meetings
- A strong results orientation, able to lead teams and individuals to deliver projects on time and to a high standard
- Experience in dealing with high-level officials, senior management, and stakeholders in government, community and/or commercial organisations
- Proven financial and risk management experience at a senior level. Ability to manage significant budgets and a proven and demonstrated ability in delivering value for money from suppliers and stakeholders
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, including provision of written and oral communication across cultures and across a broad sector of organisations and individuals
- An ability to prioritise issues and activities and to delegate work effectively
- A good understanding of the ability to work in a culturally and ethically safe way with a range of communities and stakeholders
- Proven relationship management and influencing skills
- Some leadership experience, that may include having designed and managed a project of work and resources
- With the support of Health NZ, you will proactively take care of your own health and safety, to ensure a safe and supportive work environment
